We have been supporting the Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, since January 2008. Our first adoptee, MSgt. Albert G. led the Morale Committee at the Medical Task Force there. MSgt. G. promoted movie nights, held a ping pong tournament and worked with the local nationals and Coalition Forces to improve relations there. Then a doctor in the ICU -- MAJ Jennifer W. -- became our new contact when MSgt G. redeployed back home. After Dr. W. came MSgt. Michelle G. and then Morale NCO MSgt. Rudy P. Now we support MSgt Scott B on the logistics team. All of our contacts have been tremendously supportive and we are honored and privileged to support them and all the staff and patients at Craig.
For the holidays 2008, we sent sports equipment thanks to some generous donations and our good friends at Efinger Sporting Goods of Bound Brook, NJ. Volley balls, soccer balls, softballs, gloves and other recreation equipment were sent to the hospital so the staff there could get some much-deserved relaxation and recreation (see photo album below). Also, thanks to our good friend Linda P. of Piedmont College in Demorest, GA, the hospital will also receive clothing and toys for the local needy children in the area.
AaSP and its supporters have sent sports equipment, art supplies, XBoxes, a Playstation and games and even a special coffee machine to Craig JT Hospital. One AaSP supporter is even sending local language books for adults and children. MSgt. G. spreads his care to local Afghani children and AaSP sent soccer balls, kites and stuffed animals for the children. If you would like to join us to support local Afghanis please let us know.
(Bagram Airfield is about 40 miles north of Kabul. See map below.)

The Nassau County, NY, Girl Scouts had a tremendous fund raising drive and collected money to send thousands of cases of Girl Scout cookies to the Middle East. The great folks from DHL at JFK Int'l Airport in NYC donated the logistics of shipping the cookies. DHL generously included many of AaSP's hospital units, including the Craig Joint Theater Hospital on its list of destinations. You can click on the pictures below to see enlargements of a few of the shots from the Craig "Tiki Bar," where their med folks and hospital staff relax with a soft drink and snacks.
Thanks DHL and thanks Girl Scouts!

| On Thursday, May 22nd, 2008, Lt. Gen. Gary North, commander of the 9th Air Force and all U.S. Air Forces in the Middle East, visited Craig JT Hospital. He presented our adoptee with his Coin of Excellence and got a chance to view the beautiful mural MSgt. G. and his team painted in the hospital's conference room. Way to go MSgt. G! |
