Our adoptee, Senior Chief Pietro M, gave us this description of his Forward Surgical Team:
I am Senior Chief Pietro (Pete) M, the Senior EnlistedLeader (SEL) of a U.S. Navy Forward Surgical Team (FST) currently deployed to Southern Afghanistan. Our team consists of general surgeons, orthopedic surgeon, nurse anesthetists, critical care nurse, trauma/emergency nurse, physician assistant, perioperative nurse, field medical service technicians including myself and surgical technologists. Our mission is to provide evaluation, resuscitation, surgical stabilization and coordination to higher echelon care for U.S. military forces, NATO coalition forces, and Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in a forward operating combat environment. Since arriving in Afghanistan we have been operating out of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lagman, which is a U.S. Army Outpost located northeast of Kandahar. it's been quite busy. So far, everybody is doing well, the morale among us is high. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
