Role 3 Hospital at Kandahar Air Field in AFG is a multi-national facility currently run by the US Navy. Role 3 provides critical care to all the NATO forces and local Afghan population and is a key medical facility in a very active war zone in southern Afghanistan.
We learned that when the US forces took responsibility for the hospital there were none of the normal amenities our warriors are used to. No snacks, no comfort items from America and no Day Room to relax in. Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon went to work and now we have many of our Special Friends supporting the hospital: Bryan Cave, LLP; NJ Turnpike Authority employees; Coffee Associates of Edgewater, NJ; Wanaque, NJ, Police Dept; Support Our Troops of Wesley Chapel, FL; Tasty Baking Company (TastyKakes) of Philadelphia, PA; Hillcrest School of Somerset, NJ; the Red Cross of Fairfield and Ridgewood, NJ; Lara and Friends of Cresskill, NJ; MedWeb.com; Needlecraft School of Midland Park, NJ; ADP Fed Credit Union and Piedmont Patriots of Demorest, GA, to name a few. Plus several of our regular supporters who always manage to step in when we need them, such as Jim A, Dawn B, Don and Kim D, Nina H, Gene K and Helen K.
We've already sent tens of cartons of gourmet coffee, snacks and treats, hygiene items, homemade pillows and other items for our brave warriors and we will continue to send more. In addition, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon is working on Operation Day Room to furnish a wide-screen TV, video games, DVD players, notebook computers and other amenities for the warriors and the wounded there to relax and to connect home with family and friends.
