The 1/7 Marines is a storied unit. Here are some facts about the 1/7:
The 1/7 has 12 Medal of Honor winners in its history, the most of any other Battalion in the Marine Corps. Recipients include: GySgt John Basilone, Gen Ray Davis, Lt Frank Mitchell, and Private John Kelly.
- The infamous Chesty Puller was the Bn Cmdr for 1/7 in WWII at Guadalcanal. Other famous COs include Gen Ray Davis (Chosin Reservoir, Korea) and General Mattis (Desert Storm)and the current CG Joint Forces command,
- 1/7 has participated in every major conflict since WWII: Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Somalia, and they are currently on their 4th combat deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Our adoptee came to us through one of our military contacts -- COL. Lenore E. at the Wm Beaumont AMC -- and we are honored to support this historic Marine unit.
