Packing event sends coffee, tea sticks, shower gel
and Xbox 360 games to our Troops

Aug 25, 2012 -- Thanks to our Special Friends at Unilever Military Sales, Unilever's Suffolk, VA, tea plant, Microsoft Xbox and Coffee Associates, we had a great supply from which to pack boxes to our Troops!

A small contingent of Supporters created an assembly line and AaSP packed up three skids of care cartons for our Operation NJ, Operation Overlord, Marines, Paladins and Kuwait Adoptees.  More will be packed and shipped next week. A huge thank you to our Special Friends (Kurt H and Bob B of Unilever; Kyle and Rob of Microsoft Xbox; and Bill C of Coffee Associates. We couldn't have done it with out you. Also, thanks to Sheila of Pascack Food Bank and Unilever's Consumer Services for providing extra goodies we used as "filler."  Thanks everyone!

The packing team on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, included: front row (L-R) Bogy K, Annabella C, Steve N, Natalie T, Gilbert K, Tom D, Tara S, Alan K and Ken F; back row is Dennis M, Faye E, Jennifer P, JP and Boo. Not pictured but hard workers are Allan V, Brian K and Lara S.
Packing Event: 2-12-10

We packed off over four skids of coffee; school supplies, clothing and toys for the children of Now Zad, AFG; and other goodies from the Palisades Country Day School, Red Cross, Emerson Girl Scouts and FBI of Chelsea, NYC. It was a great day with lots of help from our supporters, including several newcomers!

Thanks to Coffee Associates for the Irish Creme coffee; Wanaque, NJ, police for a van load of goodies for the Afghani kids; Red Cross for the cases and cases of gum; Palisades Country Day School of Closter and Fort Lee, NJ, for all the great snacks and personal care products, same with Emerson Girl Scouts and FBI. Great job guys!

Joe L. and Jennifer P. with a dolly-full of DJ Hero Xbox 360 games from Microsoft for the troops. We were able to pack them up at lunchtime and get them right into the shipping bay at lunchtime 11-6-09. Thanks also to Holmes B. and of course our mail/shipping team. On that day Fidel C. and Luis S. came up huge. Thanks everyone!!
Packing Ice Tea 10-23-09

On October 23, 2009, we had a great turnout for a large packing event to ship Lipton Tea 2 Go tea stix and Lipton Cold Brew ice tea bags, thanks to the generosity of our Unilever Lipton Suffolk, VA, plant (thanks Ted, Ellie and team!). See the video below to get a sense of the work done.

Packing Ice Tea Mix 8-14-09

Thanks to the generosity of Unilever's Suffolk, VA, tea plant, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon was able to pack 49 cartons for our troops in the Middle East. It gets very hot during the summer (as much as 125-130F in Kuwait) and the ice tea stix flavor the water bottles and provide extra electrolytes. The event on Friday, Aug 14, was attended by Allan V, Tom D, George Z, Dennis M, Brian K and Alan K. Additionally, two NJ ARNG soldiers from the Riverdale, NJ, Armory, volunteered to help AaSP pack the cartons.

Below see several videos taken at the packing event. Thanks to Lorrayne M. and SGT D. for engaging our troops and thanks to Ted N., Bob B., Mary F. and Chris J. for the incredibly generous donation for our military in the deserts and mountains of the Middle East.

In March 2009, several students from Montclair University in NJ collected goodies for our troops. Here Sandra B. and Jillian M. display items collected in the 3rd grade at Washington School in West Orange, NJ, where they are student teaching. The boxes were then delivered to AaSP and shipped to NJ soldiers.
Holiday Care Cartons and Stockings 2008

Our big packing party for Holidays 2008 was amazing! On Friday, Dec. 4, AaSP supporters were joined by two soldiers from the NJ ARNG and packed off over 70 care cartons full of goodies and presents for our adoptees and their units. Add to that a visit from the wife of one of our adoptees and a reporter from the NJN News crew and the event was one for the books!

For the third year in a row, one of our trustees and her family and friends went shopping for our adoptees. The gifts came from Cresskill, Tenafly, and neighboring towns in Bergen County, NJ. Thank you Lara and your crew! Add to these gifts, we had stockings from Ridgefield Boy Scouts, Emerson Girl Scouts, Cresskill, NJ, and Trumbull, CT, supporters. Goodies from the Best Buy event were uncovered and packed off. St. Ignatius Loyola Day Nursery sent cartons of food, personal care, books and even clothing items for needy Iraqi children. The Deepwater Federal Credit Union sent lots of goodies, including K-9 treats. The folks at Microsoft XBox sent games. EA sent games. It was incredible!  For pictures of the event, see the slide show below.

Packing from Best Buy event:

On Saturday, October 18, five Best Buy stores held a NJ Heroes event to collect goodies for NJ ARNG units in the local area deployed to Iraq. Best Buy delivered the items to the Unilever warehouse on the following Monday and a packing event followed. (Special continued thanks to Unilever for allowing AaSP to have a storage area at the warehouse and use of its facilities to support America's bravest.) Pictures below show the crew packing off boxes from the event.

Packing for the troops is fun and rewarding, knowing what you do makes their lives just a little better. Shown here from a packing session on Friday, August 8, 2008, is (L to R): George Z., Chuck P., Mary-Edna K., Mercy R., Traci H. and Gilbert K. Not shown are Lee Ann L., Brian K. and Allan V.
June 20, 2008: Dennis, Holmes, Gilbert and Allan packing Lipton Tea to Go for our units. It's already very hot in the Middle East and these tasty energy drinks that easily go in water bottles will be a welcome sight for our adoptees.

Care Cartons 2008

As Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon sends care cartons of all kinds to the troops. This year, Special Friends, Commercial entities and our supporters have delivered all kinds of goods that have been shipped to our units, including: personal and hair care products for nurses and female soldiers, Girl Scout cookies, Lipton Ice tea mix for water bottles, Slim-Fast protein chews, Axe deodorant, XBox games and all kinds of general food, snack, personal care and entertainment items. Thanks to all who support our programs to improve the morale of our troops. It's all about making their lives just a little better and sending them a little piece of home.
