Roq'n for the Troops Inaugural Show at The Stone Pony:
This is where it started. Scroll below for pictures, info and a video!
|
The
concert featured the rock bands Blondsense and Cookiehead as well as several acoustic acts. It was a really fun time at one of Rock's legendary
venues.
COL Bert Ges, a brigade
commander at Fort Dix, NJ, and former adoptee of AaSP, was Master of
Ceremonies. And an incredible performance was made by the Shamrock and Thistle Pipes and Drums of Ocean County, NJ.
All Active
Military, Reserves and National Guard got in free with military ID.
This was for our warriors!
|
It started with an email from one of our adoptees (LCDR Don W. in AFG) to his cousin Bill T. in NJ. Bill is in a band called Blondsense and they play at the Stone Pony. Bill talked to band leader Joe B. and called Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon and before we knew it, we had a date reserved at the legendary Stone Pony! (thanks Joe!) January 22, 2011.
All proceeds are to be shared equally with our five troop charities. They're all fantastic organizations -- NJ Elks Army of Hope, Operation Jersey Cares, the LT Dennis W. Zilinski II Foundation, A.R.M.S. and Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon. The Army of Hope has donated $$$ Hundreds of Thousands to families of wounded warriors, families of brave warriors KIA and families who just need help while their loved ones are deployed. Operation Jersey Cares sends thousands of pounds of goodies to our warriors overseas and help NJ military families. The LT Dennis W Zilinski II Foundation, based in NJ and founded after a brave Army LT was killed in Bayji, Iraq, in 2005, helps wounded warriors and has been a staunch supporter of Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon's programs and A.R.M.S. provides Welcome Homes to scores of units returning from deployment. It's all good, folks! Every one of these organizations are totally dedicated to the welfare of our military and their families! We're proud to call them our partners!!!
