Yep, we had our 6th consecutive Super Bowl Party!!! This one was at FOB Sharana in the mountains of AFG, where our war fighters got some relief of the stress of war and enjoyed some good old American football! As usual, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon asked NFL teams, Sports media and supporters to help provide souvenirs and goodies for our brave war fighters! And this year, they all came up BIG!!!!! And by the way, our goodies were shared with other FOBs and COPs in the boonies and also at Bagram AF.
From the SGM (1/19/2011): Good
Day AaSP, I was jumping up and down yesterday we received 3
boxes....This is really crazy.....Unbelievable.....I will keep you
posted as we progress along.

January 2010: Author and reporter Sebastian Junger, author of "The
Perfect Storm" and much more recently, an incredible book called "War,"
is sending some signed copies! If you haven't read War do so, it is an
incredible look at not only war in the Korengal Valley but also war
fighters like many we support right now in the mountains of AFG! Thank
you Sebastian!!!
UPDATE 25 January: The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders have been involved in every single one of our Super Bowl parties! That's six in a row!! And thanks to our good friend Melanie C, we not only have the support of the Redskins Cheerleaders, but many others as well - such as the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders ( calendars by the case, signed pictures, mini footballs, t-shirts, you name it), Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders (signed football by quarterback Kevin Kolb #4), Minnesota Viking Cheerleaders (calendars, swimsuit booklets, picture cards) and the Tennessee Titans Cheerleaders -- well, holy smokes did they come through!!!! Check out the picture and info above on their goodies!! And let's not forget a gorgeous new Redskins football and some t-shirts from the Skins! THANK YOU MELANIE!!! Other teams contributing include the Seattle Seahawks (thanks Connie C) and New England Patriots Cheerleaders (thanks Debbie M for the cheerleader brochures). And Fathead (the large logo people) are sending two life size wallables, one of Andre Johnson (top WR from Houston Texans) and DeMarcus Ware (Top Defensive player from Cowboys). Now that is a TEXAS SIZE cool for our Texas Army Natl Guard baby! Thanks Rob for your hard work. And by the way, thanks to Lynda M and her team, Larry the Cable Guy donated some signed hats for the guys!
24 January - We picked up from Coach Mike S (father of one of our former adoptees Brian S!) at the Wayne, NJ, Boys and Girls Club great gifts including a signed NY Jets hat from star center Nick Mangold ... goodies from one of the great linebackers of all time, Lawrence Taylor, signed books from Giants star Tiki Barber and many other great items! Thanks Coach Mike!
The Unilever AXE brand made a great donation for
door prizes and other goodies (Xbox 360 Kinect, PS3s, Wiis, DVD players, Sony "flip-type" camcorders, etc. Thanks Lisa P. and Kurt H.!!!)
Besides entertainment amenities we're getting footballs and hand warmers
for the attendees. They're in the mountains so the hand warmers should
come in handy - supplied by our buddies at Efinger's Sporting Goods in
Bound Brook, NJ. And our friend Julie W. of EA Community Outreach just sent an assortment of new Xbox 360 and PS3 games for the party as well! Thanks Julie!!
Microsoft Xbox 360 (thanks Vince and Richard) sent hundreds of Xbox 360 games to us. NY Jets sent (hundreds of NY Jet Cheerleader calendars, (thanks to Rick B and Joe Klecko), Houston Texans sending goodies (Rick B again), some football heroes have signed pictures for the party (thanks Rick B and Joe S) and the folks from Schneider Electric are sending snacks and such (thanks Rick B and Ellen K!).
CBS Sports sent great shirts and hats! (thanks Pete and Flora). Bill C. from Coffee Associates gave us 150lbs of hand
roasted "America's Cup of Coffee," - we sent 25lbs to the party - the US Tennis Association is sending
portable tennis kits to the party (thanks Robin J.) and Coach Mike gave us some
signed pictures from football heroes (see above). The NJ State Police also sent us sweats, shirts and very cool winter beanies! We're sending the sweats for our wounded warriors but the beanies are going to the party. It's cold in those AFG mountains!
And on Monday, 31 January, a mother of one of the NY Jets Cheerleaders dropped off some signed pictures for the party! Now how great is that???!!! Thanks Christie A!!!
