On Thursday evening, 23 June, 2011, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon partnered with the Lakewood Blue Claws to honor several of AaSP's military units for the Blue Claws' Military Appreciation Night. Included in this group was the NJ ARNG SECFOR Platoon that is leaving for Afghanistan shortly and a tribute was made to the 438th AEW, which recently lost eight US Airmen and one American contractor killed by an Afghan pilot terrorist in Kabul.
Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon bought tickets for the SECFOR families and families of units at JBMDL (Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst) that are deploying to Afghanistan. We worked with the Public Affairs office of the 174th INF Brigade, the 72nd FA Training Brigade and the SECFOR FRG at Riverdale Armory in NJ.
This was not a fund-raiser, but a night to honor our troops and their families! The family of our adoptee SMSgt Dan B. of the 438th AEW attended and Dan's daughter Gabby threw out the first pitch. The Blue Claws signed four baseball bats, which are making their way to four of our adopted units in AFG.
Also part of the event was a giveaway of video games by Electronic Arts, one of the foremost game creators. Games were given to the 319th MPAD, which is leaving next month for Afghanistan, and family of SMSgt Dan B, first sergeant of the 438th AEW. (Thanks Julie W for the great games!)
Thanks to Ross P. and the Lakewood Blue Claws for a great night and a tribute to our military!
