Red Hat Ladies Adopt Female Soldiers and Nurses January 07:
The Lockettes and Social Butterfly chapters of the Red Hat Ladies on Staten Island, NY, held a special event on Tuesday, January 16, to honor female soldiers and nurses. The Chapter asked its members to shop for the female soldiers. Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon shipped the items to: 28th CSH, 324th ITSB and the 209th ASB, B Company 'BlackSheep.' Click here for Flyer on this project. The Staten Island Advance wrote a wonderful article on this event - (see it here).
Carmen and her Red Hat Ladies delivered to AaSP bags and bags of goodies for our female soldiers and nurses. It was all shipped to Iraq on Friday, Jan. 26. We thank Carmen and her wonderful friends for these bountiful gifts for our soldiers. Two of the units, the 209th ASB, B Co. and the 324th ITSB, have already received the packages.
"WOW! They sent a ton of stuff! I had all our female Soldiers come and get it and then we still had a bunch leftover so I started trying to spread it around the Battalion," said MAJ John McA, company commander, 2-3-07.

The Red Hatters of Staten Island were excited with the idea of adopting our female soldiers. The Lockettes & Social Butterflies broke bread at the event with The Sexy Mamas, The Scarlet Renegades ,The Sparklers, The Rolling Mamas & Grace Ferrante, granddaughter of a Lockette who collected many items from her sorority. La Botte Restaurant donated its space with special menu prices. Another event is planned for March.
There are 47 Red Hat Ladies chapters on Staten Island. They were all invited to participate in this exciting event.
For more information on how you can help in this cause (the Red Hat Ladies are having another event in March) or for more information on the Red Hat Ladies, contact Carmen E. Rivera at 718 273 9018 or 917 292 7678 or email gliters@earthlink.net.
AaSP Note: Carmen emailed us on Christmas Day. She works for Atlas Air and noted that Atlas was working with us. Because of Atlas Air's generous donation to our Operation Holiday 2006 DVD project, we wanted to work with Carmen. She wanted to do something special for our troops and we suggested helping the female soldiers and nurses. We are grateful for her interest and the interest of the Red Hat Ladies.
