Several local NJ UNICO chapters already had supported Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon's programs to support the troops. Then in late July, UNICO National invited AaSP President Alan Krutchkoff to come out to its convention in Lake Las Vegas, NV, and present its programs to the general membership. The presentation on Friday morning, August 1, was a tremendous success with many members and chapters showing interest in becoming more active in supporting the troops and several pledged generous financial donations to help AaSP programs.
On Saturday, August 2, Krutchkoff and AaSP were presented with UNICO National's prestigious Philip Mazzei Grand Patriot of Americanism Award for 2009. Previous winners of the award include President George W. Bush, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congressman William J. Pascrell, Jr., General Anthony C. Zinni and Major General Patrick P. Caruana.
