Thanks to our incredible Benefactors, Partners, Special Friends and Supporters, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon is planning to launch a two-day 'Welcome Home Happening' beginning in the Spring of 2012 and continuing through Fall 2012. The 'Happening' will be focused primarily at providing great entertainment as a thank you "Welcome Home" for incoming and/or departing troops, as well as recognizing the wonderful patriots that have supported them or will support them in theater. Our proposed sites so far are:
Camp Lejeune, Fort Drum, and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. These are all wartime deployment installations and have seen their Warriors deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. The event on board the IKE will be a pre-deployment event as the ship is scheduled to deploy to the MIddle East sometime shortly thereafter.
Activities will include a Madden 12 Xbox 360 video tournament, complete with prizes and leave behinds for the Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR) teams and including cheerleading by the NFL's famous First Ladies of Football, the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders; a Cheerleader variety show; mobile tennis demonstrations and classes by the US Tennis Association (and possibly tennis competitions); and additional live musical entertainment (groups and singers to be determined and announced). In short, a two-day 'HAPPENING!.'
We expect the following entities to participate as Sponsors and Supporters of this unique series of events: Unilever Military Sales; Unilever brands Dove and AXE; Atlas Air Worldwide; Microsoft and Xbox 360; EA Sports; the US Tennis Association, Sport Court and the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders. Additional support we hope to gather from local USOs, MWRs and sponsors at each installation. We are in the process of gathering support for this very large endeavor!
