A 184-acre Retreat for Life, Love and Respect in rural Fairmont, NC.
Camp4Heroes began in February of 2016 when Capt. John "Woody" Woodall, retired Fire Captain of the Raleigh, NC, Fire Department, located an idea, serene piece of property in Robeson County, NC. With the help of a Benefactor and two charitable associates - Danny Prince of the Fire Family Transport Foundation of the NYC Fire Department; and Scott Mallary of Truckin4Troops - the land was purchased and the dream began. Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon heard about the Camp in March and pledged to support the ideals of the Camp - to help our Veterans heal their wounded souls, improve their self esteem and, hopefully, reduce the suicide rate amongst Veterans in the United States.
Today, the Camp is well underway to becoming operational. There is a lodge; equine horse, paddock and barn; 10-acre lake with picnic shelter, 60-ft pier and gazebo; cabins are soon to be built (Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon is building the first log cabin at the Camp beginning in August 2017); a chapel and sound studio is in the plans; and a wellness center will house a commercial kitchen, art studio, exercise room and meeting/eating area for 50 people. An outdoor kitchen is being built in an area where RVs will be able to hook up or our warriors can pitch a tent. Also, an outdoor bathroom/shower/laundry area is being planned for the immediate future.
